Public Integrity and Illinois Governor’s Race 2010

by Greg Miller

Public integrity is perhaps the most important issue for the Illinois governors’ race in 2010. Many Illinois citizens have a bitter taste in their mouths about past Illinois governors and as a result many citizens will pay attention to what the candidates will say. Obviously, an important issue for Illinois citizens are can they trust their governor.

The best way to restore trust is by giving the citizen the ability to see what their elective officials are doing, and also, what Illinois agencies are doing. This can be done through the State’s ability to disseminate records information either publicly or to an individual. In addition, standards should be relaxed in order to give more resourceses for citizens to see for themselves what is truly going in Illinois government.

Bill Brady, Jim Ryan and Pat Quinn are leading the 2010 race. It is important to pay attention and inquire to their views and policies in order to make the best judgment possible. It is believe this race will be the most important step towards regaining the trust of Illinois citizens.
