The Right to Remove Government Officials

By Greg Miller
Investigative Journalist

There are many citizens who believe that government is running out of control and is rapidly getting worse. From Washington DC to the local police department there are several bad apples that seem to not understand who it was that gave them their job. While D.C. politicians are running up the national debt to collapse the nation’s economy there are people in lower levels of government who actually believe they can do what ever they want. What can society do to limit this act?

In civilized society there are various ways to place or remove people of power. Under the doctrine of “Right of Revolution”, John Locke in his Second Treatise wrote, “in the People a Supream Power to remove or alter the Legislative, when they find the Legislative act contrary to the trust reposed in them… and thus the Community perpetually retains a Supream Power”.

Government is an institution that was established by citizens and the job of government is to accomplish the will of the citizens who placed them into power. It is the responsibility of the people to hold these officials accountable. If the will of the people is not being accomplished, then, it is the responsibility of the people to put them out of power and find thoes who will respect the rights of a free society.
