CNN Sketch Artist Ordered Not to Sketch in Court

by Greg Miller - Investigative Reporter

SEDONA, AZ - A CNN sketch artist attended a criminal trial in Yavapai County Arizona and was ordered by Judge Warren Darrow to not sketch certain people that were in the court room after a prosecutor complained about her making a drawing of courtroom litigation.

Often, since cameras are not allowed in the court room, journalists will resort to using a sketch artist to obtain images of activities in court rooms. The court room is a public forum and the press has the right to gather and publish activities of the court.

This respected artist worked for the Washington Post and CNN and has even had the privilege to make drawings of US Supreme Court Justices from behind the bench.

A complaint has been filed with the ACLU and NBC has published a story about this incident.
